Who is Olivia Chardon?

A few months ago I attended the American Open and photographed a number of very talented weightlifters.  One in particular I saw warming up and had to ask someone close by, "Who is she?"

"Her name is Olivia Chardon!"

At that exact moment Olivia snatched 59 kilos and set an American Record.  I am not sure why, but she caught my attention.  Maybe because Olivia's demeanor and poise mimicked that of a veteran weightlifter... or maybe because I thought she would make a fantastic role model for young girls.   Either way I wanted to find about more about her.

Here is Olivia Chardon

"I started weightlifting about 3 years ago and it has completely changed my world. It has allowed me to gain self confidence and achieve things I never thought would be possible at my age.  I love that I have been able to travel to different places and meet so many other awesome athletes."

Having done gymnastics competitively for several years, Olivia was very active when she was younger.  One day, together with her mother, she decided to give Crossfit a try.  Just like many of us... She fell in love with the lifting part involved in Crossfit.  She went on to pursue the sport of weightlifting.

Olivia's passion and talent for weightlifting isn't by chance, it's in her DNA.  Her mother is a Florida State Champion and will be competiting in her first international meet, (Pan Am Masters).  She trains at Epidemic Weightlifting where she is trained by her stepdad, Miles Ashworth and trains with her sister.

Her coach and Step-Father: Miles Ashworth from Epidemic Weightlifting.

HEAVY SINGLES

Don't let her warm smile and size fool you.  She can dominate a platform.  At the American Open she set new American records in the Snatch with 59kg and 75kg Clean and Jerk, totaled with 134kg.

"My goals over the next few years consist of Youth Olympics in 2018 and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. I would love to become a coach and start my own gym so I can introduce other youth to the sport of weightlifting."

Folks, keep your eye on this weightlifter!  All the best to you Olivia and looking forward to all your future successes!  I hope this post will help other inspiring young weightlifters to follow their dreams.
